Sandra K. Pope, is Assistant Professor in the Departments of Geriatrics and Psychiatry in the College of Medicine at the University of AR for Medical Sciences (UAMS), and Founder of the Mindfulness Center for Healthy Living. Dr. Pope completed her doctorate degree at the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health in Epidemiology and she received her MBSR training from Dr. Kabat-Zinn, Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts and developer of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program.
Sandy has meditated for over 35 years and has taught the MBSR course and trained MBSR instructors for the past 10 years. Over 300 individuals in Arkansas have completed the MBSR training with her. In addition to founding and developing the Mindfulness Center, she has also conducted research at UAMS examining the relationship between health behaviors and Alzheimer’s disease, genetic risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease, as well as the effectiveness of MBSR in improving health outcomes for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr Pope presents seminars, workshops, and lectures of interest to a variety of groups and organizations. She collaborates with the ReCenter Program at UAMS to provide stress-reduction training and assessments for businesses across Arkansas.
